Reading

Your child will be asked to do a large amount of reading in school and at home, with the goal of completing many books from a variety of genres by year's end. The reason for this is simple: research shows that students who read for one hour every day, from books that they can read and want to read, have a much better chance for success in school and beyond. The more time your child spends reading at his or her independent level, the better reader he or she will become.

We need your help! Every night your child should read for at least 30 minutes per night and keep some data on their reading. We want accurate data so we can help your child to analyze their reading patterns and set goals around reading stamina and finding books they enjoy. We will try out some different kinds of reading logs and they can pick what works for them. The reading should be easy and fun for your child. It should not be a struggle.

Thanks for participating in developing your child's love for reading.
